Welcoming Lucille Hardy as a BSc student from the University of Exeter
Lucille is entering the final year of her BSc in Biological Sciences at the University of Exeter. Throughout her degree, she has developed a broad interest in environmental science, particularly how organisms interact with and respond to changing environments. Her studies have given her experience in ecological fieldwork, laboratory research, and data collection.
Sangan Island Conservation is excited to be supporting her BSc dissertation project as a student intern. Supporting external students and early career researchers is an important part of what we do, and we are able to offer practical training, fieldwork opportunities, and dedicated supervision to help students develop the skills they need for a future in conservation. Lucille’s project is being co-supervised by Hannah Le Morvan, Senior Research Ecologist at Sangan Island Conservation, who will be supporting her through all stages of the work.
Lucille is looking forward to gaining experience in acoustic analysis and habitat assessment, which will support her final year dissertation project investigating bat activity in Jersey. Her project will examine how landscape variables and seasonal shifts affect both resident and migratory bat species, with the aim of identifying priority habitats across the island.
Using Jersey as a model island system, she hopes the findings will help inform long-term monitoring and conservation planning locally, while contributing to wider international conservation efforts. With climate change placing growing pressure on species and habitats, Lucille is inspired by the work being done at Sangan Island Conservation and is excited to learn from the team.
