The grey long-eared bat is near threatened across its geographical range with the main threats being identified as loss of roosting space, habitat loss, light pollution and climate change and severe weather.

Director and Principal Ecologist Piers Sangan stated:

“We are delighted to have been awarded this money to help with local grey long-eared bat research. This funding is a highlight in a year that has been otherwise difficult for this species locally, with what we fear being potentially a whole year’s young lost due to the extreme hot weather in July.”

Director of Research and Training, Dr Amy Louise Hall, stated:

“We are very thankful for this support from the Jersey Community Foundation with funds from the Channel Islands Lottery Jersey Fund which will enable us to find out much more about this species locally. This is a special bat species, and one where the company, through the Jersey Grey Long-eared Bat Project, has become the local authority for this species. We look forward to publishing the results of this coming year’s bat research.”
