New Appointment – Chair of Jersey Heritage

4 February 2025

We’re delighted to share some brilliant news from within our own team. Dr Amy Hall, our Director of Research and Training here at Sangan Island Conservation, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees at Jersey Heritage Trust, the charity responsible for promoting and preserving the island’s history.

Amy steps up from her previous role as vice-chair, following the death last year of former chair Simon Boas. It’s a transition she’s described as bittersweet, reflecting on how much Simon is missed both as chair and as a friend, and hoping she can live up to the standard he set.

It’s a fitting role for someone whose career has always sat at the crossing point of natural history and heritage. Amy joined Jersey Heritage Trust as a trustee back in 2020, and alongside her ecological work she has also worked with the National Trust for Jersey and Jersey Heritage, where she catalogued the charity’s natural history collection, as well as with collections held by the Société Jersiaise. It’s that same breadth, an expert in small mammals and bats who is equally at home with archives and collections, that makes her so well suited to lead the trust into its next chapter.

The appointment comes at a moment when Jersey Heritage Trust is actively looking to grow its board. An information event for prospective trustees is being held at Jersey Museum at 17:30 on Wednesday 12 February, aimed at people who share the trust’s vision of acting as a guardian and champion for the island’s history. Trustee positions are voluntary, initially for a three-year term, and carry responsibility for the trust’s governance, strategic direction, and the proper use of the public funding it receives from the States of Jersey.

From all of us at Sangan Island Conservation, huge congratulations to Amy. It’s richly deserved, and we know Jersey Heritage Trust is in excellent hands.
