Welcome to the Team

Piers-Sangan

We’re delighted to welcome Dr Amy Louise Hall to the Sangan Island Conservation team!

Amy is a zoologist and ecologist with over 20 years’ experience working with small mammals and bats across the UK, South America, the Caribbean, and the Channel Islands — so she’s no stranger to the places and species closest to our hearts.

Her research has always centred on bats, small mammals, trees, and habitats. Her MRes explored how bats use small farm woodlands, her LLM examined the legal protections afforded to bats under English and Jersey law, and her PhD investigated small mammal movement patterns across habitat mosaics. She brings a rare combination of field ecology, conservation law, and academic rigour to everything she does.

Amy is also a passionate educator. She has been teaching for over two decades — from university training and evening IT classes at Highlands College, to a graduate certificate course validated by the University of Kent and, more recently, several modules on a University of Exeter MSc programme, as well as ecological skills and advanced techniques courses for trainees across the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

Beyond her research and teaching, Amy gives generously of her expertise to the wider conservation community. She is Chair of the Zoology Section at the Société Jersiaise, Vice Chair of the Membership Admissions Committee at CIEEM, and a member of both the Scientific Advisory Committee and Training Committee of the Mammal Society. She also serves as a Trustee at Jersey Heritage Trust, where she chairs both the Finance & Audit Committee and the Environment Committee.

We’re thrilled to have Amy on board — welcome! 🦇🌿
